The images can be watched in real time on a standard television set. When you are away from your home or premises, both real-time and recorded images can be viewd over the internet, from anywhere in the world.
Recording onto video tapes has been replaced by digital hard storage devices, no bigger than an average DVD player, which can store many days of video on the internal hard disk. They make searching for video of specific times, or specific events, easier than ever before.
